Firmware Version 2.34 Offers Lossless Compression on 7-Series Digital Audio Recorders

October 04, 2007 — Firmware revision 2.34 for Sound Devices 702, 702T, 722, and 744T recorders is now available. This new release adds several important new features to the 7-series digital recorders, including, FLAC lossless audio compression, MP2 and MP3 format recording, and multi-unit linking enhancements.

“Our 7-Series recorders continue to gain new, important features through our no-charge firmware updates,” says Jon Tatooles, Managing Director. He adds, “We are especially excited for customers to explore recording data-compressed files using our on-board FLAC encoder.”

FLAC is an open-source file format which maintains bit-accurate PCM audio data and all Broadcast Wave and iXML metadata generated by the 7-Series recorders. FLAC files are reduced in size in a range from 2:1 to 5:1. CompactFlash cards are effectively doubled in size when recording FLAC.

Additional features include multi-unit linking. When more than one 7-Series is linked via C.Link, these units call all be simultaneously controlled by one master unit, effectively offering unlimited multi-track recording.

Revision 2.34 firmware is available for immediate download by all 7-Series users.
